
Dr. Najat Abdul Samad is a Syrian writer, poet, and gynecologist based in Berlin. Born in As-Suwayda, she is the author of several acclaimed novels and short story collections exploring war, displacement, gender, and care, including No Water to Quench Their Thirst, winner of the 2018 Katara Prize for Arabic Novel. Trained in both medicine and Arabic literature, her work bridges lived experience, testimony, and literary imagination, foregrounding the human consequences of violence and exile—particularly for women. Her writings have been translated into multiple languages and discussed internationally in literary and academic contexts.
